November is Diabetes Awareness Month! I am pleased to present you with D-Quote, a Diabetes Light initiative that gives voice to our community and helps provide awareness for this challenging invisible condition. Thank you for reading. I encourage you to pass these meaningful quotes and stories along to increase our advocacy and outreach efforts. All advocacy moves us closer to a cure. Thanks for your help! 🙂
**A special thanks to our community members for taking the time to write and bravely share their stories and experiences to provide diabetes awareness.
“Hopefully soon we’ll have a cure and I’d hate to see all of the acronyms that have become so popular with diabetics go to waste. So it’s only fair that we give them new jobs with different meanings. I’ll need some help from the D.O.C. (DIABETICS ON COMPUTERS )
Here’s a few I’ve come up with.
b.g.-previously blood glucose. Now- BILLY GOAT. imagine how much time and resources could be saved by shortening it to simply b.g. Alright, I may need a little help with these.
T1D- previously…well it’s probably obvious. Now- TWENTY ONE to DRINK. o.k., I guess that’s obvious as well, but they still post it, so now on a smaller sign.
D.A.D.- previously diabetic alert dog. Now- DRIVING AFTER DARK. Or DIAMOND ALERT DOG, these dogs would be retrained to alert the smell of diamonds.
P.W.D.- previously person with diabetes. Now- PERSON WITHOUT DIABETES. Obviously my favorite
HbA1c – previously Hemoglobin A1c. Now- HAPPY BIRTHDAY ANOTHER 1 CURED. As everyone can’t be cured all at once, they’ll be cured on their birthday.”
